The Subtle Body and Emotions
What is the role of emotions in working with the subtle body? I was told they can create problems. How do you handle them?
Emotions are a complex topic. Emotions such as devotion or compassion or yearning for a connection with the One, all these change the subtle body in ways that are helpful if we want to live a beautiful life. Emotions that rule us, however - being jealous, or being taken over by anger in the moment, these can turn us into a slave to our reactions. When we are lost in the throes of anger other people actually have more control over our actions than we do. Perhaps the most important thing to learn in this work is how to “read” our emotions. That is, to know where they came from. And also, to know what they actually are, because sometimes an emotion will hide behind another emotion. For example, fear often hides behind anger. We need to know where our triggers come from. We need to clarify what stories we tell ourselves about the origins of our emotions. As you can see, it can become very complicated very quickly, as anyone who has ever had an emotion knows very well. That is why it is important to develop our sixth chakra and learn to read our own energy and that of the people we interact with, and to do so from a neutral place. Without that neutrality that keeps us out of judgement, we have no assurance that what we are assuming to be true is accurate. For example, we may think we are reading someone else’s energy, when in fact, we are reading our own. So the process is complex and that is why it is good to devote our time and energy to it.
